How to Play

  1. Read the rules specified below.
  2. Register your submission by clicking Registration at the bottom of this page.
  3. Your registration will automatically signify your agreement to play by our rules.
  4. You will be contacted either by email or telephone soon after receiving your submission, for confirmation.
  5. You could submit your estimation and workings by email, fax, or by post, as specified in the registration form.
  6. All submissions with reasonable and adequate workings attached will be posted on our web site a few days after confirmation. Hermes Securities Limited reserves the right to reject any submission with unscrupulous contents, when considered inappropriate.
  7. Our winner - "The King of Chartist" will be announced two days after the game ends, and will win the prizes specified below.
  8. Submissions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd places will be posted in Hermes Securities Web Site or a local newspaper.
  9. The prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places are HK$3000, HK$1500 and HK$500 respectively.
  10. Prizes are subject to change without notice.
  11. This section on "How to play" and the "Game Rules" listed below form an integral part of the conditions of entering.

Game Rules

  1. Contestants are invited to forecast the closing level of the Hang Seng Index ("Final Index") on the last trading day of each quarter, that is, March, June, September and December, respectively by means of technical analysis.
  2. This game begins on the first trading day of each quarter and ends on the last trading day of the respective quarter. Deadline of Submission: 2nd last Friday of each quarter-month. (e.g. the coming deadline will be on Dec 24, 1999)
  3. Judgements would be made on the last trading day of March, June, September and December respectively.
  4. The contestant with his/her target index equal to or closest to the respective quarter's final index and with sufficient supporting workings will win the game.
  5. Contestants are required to submit a specific target index point of the HSI. If a range is submitted instead, the mean of the upper bound and lower bound would be taken as the contestant's target index.
  6. Early bird bonus will be awarded for contestants who submit their entries earlier. The contestant's target index will be turned to a target range and should the final index falls within the range, the contestant will win the game.
  7. The reward scheme for the early bird bonus is as follows:
       
    Submitted within Target range awarded
    1st month of each quarter 3% of one's target index
    2nd month of each quarter 1% of one's target index
       
  8. Early bird always has a priority to win over late contestants. When two early birds with their ranges cover the final index, the date of submission would be used as a benchmark to determine the winner.
  9. Each person can only enter with one entry. However, the submitted work could be revised or amended before the deadline. The newly revised or amended submission date would be taken as the contestant's final submission date.
  10. Entries can be in either Chinese or English.
  11. Contestants must be 18 or above.
  12. Hermes Securities Limited holds the right to effect any changes or amendments of the game and in case of disputes our decision would be final.
  13. Hermes Securities Limited and her respective officers, directors, agents and employees are released from all liability of any kind concerning the game.
